Not only did she share important historical information but also cultural practices and pointed out how they varied between Thai Buddhist and Chinese Buddhist spaces. The sites themselves are gorgeous but what made this tour special were the details Fern included, such as teaching me how to fold a flower into a lotus, sticking gold paper onto the Buddha, lighting incense and placing it correctly, showing me how people worship properly and why each step is taken.
